Double title for Spain as European champion in 35 km dash, with record set by Maria Pérez and Alvaro Martín


Spanish athletes Maria Perez, with a brilliant world record, and Alvaro Martin, with a national record, won the 35 km walk test this Sunday at the European Team Championships to be held in the city of Podebradi (Czech Republic). . and thus consolidating the double for Spain.


Maria Perez set a new record of 2:37:15 to claim gold in the women's race which was dominated by the Spaniards. Raquel Gonzalez took silver in 2:45:42 and Christina Montesinos took bronze in 2:45:42. In addition, ninth position Paula Juarez (2:55:14) brought Spain to be a turning point.


In the men's event, Alvaro Martin took gold in 2:25:35, setting a new record for Spain. Christopher Linke of Germany won silver in 2:27:05, a new national record for him, and Miguel Angel Lopez of Spain won bronze in 2:27:33.


Excellent results by Alvaro Martín and Miguel Ángel López and finishing eighth on Marc Tour in 2:32:06 ensured Spain won the men's team title. In this way, the special "Dream Team" of the Royal Spanish Athletics Federation (RFEA) reaped the rewards of success.
