Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy received several new pledges of armed and diplomatic support for Ukraine on Sunday in Hiroshima, Japan.
The G7 group met in Hiroshima over the weekend. During the meeting, which discussed Zelensky's surprise visit, Ukraine was promised more weapons assistance and training for F-16 fighter jets.
US President Joe Biden announced a new $375 million aid package for Ukraine in Japan. Zelenskyy chief of staff Andriy Yermak said the package included, among other things, more ammunition for the Himars system, which he had previously received from Ukraine.
In addition, the US allowed its allies to supply Ukraine with US F-16 fighter jets. British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak also said that training Ukraine on how to deal with them would start in the summer.
England itself did not have such fighters, but the Netherlands and Denmark did.
Biden also said he had received "unconditional guarantees" from Zelenskyi that Ukraine would not attack the Russian side with F-16 fighter jets.
Zelenskyy's invitation to Hiroshima, which symbolizes the horrors of nuclear war, is also a "very meaningful" sign of support and solidarity, said Prime Minister Fumio Kishida of Japan, host of the G7 meeting.
Important countries outside the G7 configuration were also invited to the meeting, such as the heads of state and government of Brazil and India. French President Emmanuel Macron said one of the aims of the meeting was to get these countries to speak out in favor of Ukraine.
